Tax & Social Services Information

If this is your first time working in the UK, you'll need to complete a P46 form which your Nigel Lynn consultant will provide you with. You will also need to get a National Insurance Number which is used by employers for the deduction of tax and contributions. It also allows you to qualify for certain types fo Social Services benefits.

You can only obtain a National Insurance Number when you start working. To obtain one you'll need to contact your local Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) office. To find out where your nearest DWP offie see http://www.dwp.gov.uk/ or call 0845 600 0643. On leaving the country you should contact HM Revenue and Customs as you may be entitled to a tax refund. For all tax information please visit http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/

Banking Information

You will need a bank account in order to be paid by your employer.  To open your bank accont you will need your passport as proof of ID and a utility bill as proof of address. It’s a good idea to bring a letter or statements from your bank at home as examples of your recent financial history.

Healthcare

It is a good idea to register with your local doctor as soon as you have found somewhere to live. Health and well-being are of fundamental importance. When you come to live in the UK you will need to know how to get access to healthcare and whether you will have to pay for services. Under the current Regulations, anyone who is engaging in employment with an employer is fully exempt from National Health Service (NHS) hospital charges in England. If you are here on a work visa but currently unemployed you will be charged for your treatment, unless you are otherwise exempt from charges. Work Visas UK

To work in the UK you will need to hold a passport and a current UK work visa or permit. You will need to have this documentation prior to entering the UK for work. There are a variety of UK work visas, work permits and passports that will enable you to legally work in the UK; each has their own set of eligibility requirements. To find out more information about visas requirements for the UK, and to get the necessary application forms, contact your nearest British Consulate or High Commission.
